Citizens of the United States do not need a passport or visa to travel to St. Thomas. Travelers to our island are required to carry a photo ID, which can be a US drivers license.  It is strongly recommended due to recent events in travel that you have this easily accessible at all times.  Not only will it prove your citizenship, but will verify your identity and make traveling hassle-free.

St. Thomas is part of the United States Virgin Islands, also known as "America's Paradise". Come and relax under the safety of the American Flag.

travel documentation

It is always recommended that you travel with your passport, as it is the easiest document to present anywhere you go. Airline and security agents at all U.S. airports will expect it from all travelers. However, because St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John are a United States territory, it is NOT REQUIRED that you have a passport when travelling here. If you have a valid passport, bring it with you. If you or someone you are travelling with do not have a passport, it is required that you present a government issued identification (Drivers License, ID card) as well as an original copy of your birth certificate (with a raised seal). A social security card will not suffice.

The U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico are exempt from the passport regulation that will be implemented after January 1, 2007. The U.S. Department of Justice has confirmed that traveling with a US Passport is not a requirement for American citizens when coming to St. Thomas. A valid photo ID is all you need to travel to the U.S. Virgin Islands, although it is recommended that you also bring a copy of your birth certificate. Please call U.S. Customs at 340-773-1490 if you have any questions.

If you are not a US citizen but want to travel to the U.S. Virgin Islands, a passport from your country of origin is required.
